The Association of Independent Institutions announced its first Player of the Week awards for the 2016-17 academic year Monday, naming GGC sophomore Ana Gonzalez the women’s soccer Player of the Week.
Gonzalez, a 5-foot-7 Miranda de Ebro, Spain, native, scored three goals in two games for the Grizzlies, netting two against the Cumberlands (Ky.) on August 22. Gonzalez’s second game against the Patriots was the game-winner, propelling the Grizzlies to the 2-1 victory. The forward currently ranks 13th in the NAIA in total goals (3) and is 47th in the nation in points per game average (2).
“This is a terrific honor for both Ana and her teammates,” stated GGC head coach Chris Kouns. “She has a terrific work rate that, when combined with her teammates’ efforts, allows us to do great things!”
The Grizzlies are 2-1 on the year, picking up wins against the Cumberlands, 2-1, and Life University (Ga.), 7-0.
Georgia Gwinnett is back in action on Wednesday as it hosts Brewton-Parker (Ga.) at the Grizzly Soccer Complex at 7:00 p.m.
