Cornerstone Christian Academy accomplished an unprecedented feat as they claimed four North Atlanta Metro League Championships in one day.
The Boys and Girls Cross Country teams and the 8th and 7th grade volleyball teams all won on October 8. “It was a great day for Cornerstone Athletics,” Athletic Director Chuck Faust said. “We are blessed to have some great athletes, families and coaches.”
The Boys Cross Country team capped a perfect undefeated season by winning the NAML Championship in Cartersville. Throughout the season they won seven invitationals defeating over forty different area middle schools, most of which have at least double the student population of Cornerstone. The top runners (finished top five) for the season were Gabriel Schlicht, Jamarcus Turner, Miguel Schlicht, Davis Fogle, Isaac Anderson and Alex Whitesides.
The girls team showed steady improvement throughout the season and won the girls championship by virtue of a tie break. Top runners were Abigail Verna, Katie Gartin, Tessa Balsman, Ava Merrill, Hannah Heetderks and Cici Rudder.
The 8th grade volleyball team claimed their first ever championship with a thrilling three set win over Eastside Christian. They played the majority of their matches against much larger schools and that experience paid off during the playoffs. Gina Bentley, Kathryn Kammerer, Magen Parks, Hannah Steiner, Madelyn Taylor, and Meredith Tjepkema and Elise Wood contributed to the title.
The 7th grade team defeated Shiloh Hills in the Championship match. They went 24-3 on the season. Keridah Bouadou, Ellie Dougherty, Annie Fogle, Regan Fox, Amber Mathis, Kailin O’Brien, Sara Ostrowski, Mary John Reinhard, and Parker Smith were on the team.
