Bernhard Langer to Defend Greater Gwinnett Championship Title
Two-time Masters Champion Bernhard Langer will play in the 2ndannual Greater Gwinnett Championship Presented by Mitsubishi Electric Cooling & Heating, an Official Event on the PGA TOUR’s Champions Tour. Langer won the inaugural Greater Gwinnett Championship last year by three shots over Tom Lehman and Tom Pernice, Jr. With a 54-hole score of 10-under-par 206, he captured the first place check of $270,000.
Native of Anhausen, Germany, Langer became golf’s first number one ranked player in 1986. He captured the coveted green jacket at the Master in both 1985 and 1993. Remarkably he was in the Masters hunt last year at the age of 55 before a final round 76 dropped him at a 25thplace tie. Langer ranks second all time in career wins on the European Tour with 40. He played on 10 Ryder Cup teams and was the captain of the winning European team in 2004. He is one of just four players in history (Gary Player, David Graham and Hale Irwin are the others) to have won at least one tournament on all six continents in which golf is played.He has earned 19 Champions Tour titles including two majors: the 2010 U.S. Senior Open and the 2010 Senior Open. Langer was elected to the World Golf Hall of Fame in 2001.
