With one week in the books for the 2013-2014, the entire state gets into the action this week. Our staff sifted through all of the schedules to find this week’s five must-see match-ups around the Georgia.

Saturday, Nov. 23
Northside-Columbus vs. Fayette Co. 2 p.m. (at Sandy Creek):The first year of the Sandy Creek Shootout pins one of the best teams in Columbus against one of the best teams from the southern Atlanta suburbs. Keep an eye on Davion Thomas of Northside and the entire starting five of Fayette County.

Tucker vs. North Cobb Christian 4 p.m. (at North Gwinnett): The first game of the Jared Cook Tip-Off Classic is a good one. Both teams are state championship contenders in their respective classes. There are, at least, seven Division I prospects in this game.

Buford  vs. Miller Grove 7 p.m. (at North Gwinnett): A new lineup at Buford will have its hands full against an experienced Miller Grove team. Alabama move-in Rakim Lubin and super sophomore D’Marcus Simonds will have to deal with the intense defensive pressure that Miller Grove brings every game.

Effingham County  at North Gwinnett 8:30 p.m.: The nightcap of the opening day of the Jared Cook Tip-Off Classic pins one of the best players in the state against one of the best teams in the state. Jakeenan Gant, Effingham’s big dog, is the No. 1 senior in Georgia while NGHS has an experienced team that isn’t intimidated by anyone.

McEachern at Marietta 7:30 p.m.: Both teams are coming off of good wins at the Georgia Tip-Off Classic and when you pair up county rivals there is a lot on the line. Region 4-AAAAAA will be a highly contested group of teams this year and this early game, down the road pecking order could be on the line. Logan McIntosh of McEachern against Cameron Jordan of Marietta should be a good one.
