Georgia Race for Autism and Fall Festival, Saturday, Oct. 5

The 7th annual Georgia Race for Autism & Fall Festival is just around the corner! Grab your running shoes and your family and join in on the fun. On Saturday, October 5th, 2013, SPECTRUM will host a 10K, 5K, 1 mile fun run, tot trot, and a Fall Festival on the Gwinnett County Fair Grounds. Additionally, the festival will feature a silent auction that will serve as a fundraiser for SPECTRUM Autism Support Group. Donated auction items, such as spa services, car washes, gift cards over $25, or other items that can be placed in a gift basket, will be greatly appreciated and will support those affected by autism.

Two million individuals are estimated to be affected by Autism Spectrum Disorders, and the CDC has recently reported that 1 in 88 children are diagnosed with autism every year, making autism the fastest growing developmental disorder in the nation. The disorder occurs in all racial and ethnic groups, and although it cannot be outgrown, studies have proven that diagnosis and intervention lead to significantly improved outcomes.

In response to the growing numbers of autism diagnoses, SPECTRUM was established in the fall of 1998 and has, since then, provided support, education, and resources to children, adults, and families affected by autism. Each year, Spectrum serves over 1000 individuals with autism through social groups, camps, and respite programs. SPECTRUM also offers support groups for parents, siblings, and grandparents of children with autism as well as for adults with autism.

Sports Gwinnett is one of several sponsors of this event and will love to see you and your families there.
